Would you like to coach paddlesports? This course is a first step along the path. This is a weekend course. You need to have completed the Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course and you need to be competent in your chosen craft whether that is kayak, canoe or paddleboard.

White Water Safety and Rescue Training
This one is for the more experienced paddler. If you venture onto moving water in your kayak, canoe or paddleboard then this is the safety course that you want to do. This is a two day course and to get the most out of it you should be comfortable swimming in and around grade 2 water and be able to independently manage your craft. This is the course that will support you to consider safe practices, provide practical solutions to common issues, and appropriate responses to incidents all with the purpose of preparing you for for fun on the river.
- You will develop an understanding of safety principles and protocols;
- You will explore and practice different ways to provide a rescue from a bank;
- The tutors will support you in practising personal rescue skills;
- You will develop techniques to rescue swimmers from the water;
- Our tutors will share with you top tips to recover both craft and paddles;
- You will know how to prioritise and structure rescues;
- You will explore solutions to appropriate methods of paddling rivers;
Paddlesport Touring Leader
Again for the more experienced paddler, this award supports your existing skills and enables you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable trips. You can design your own learning journey, using formal and informal opportunities to develop your skills.
WHAT CAN A PADDLESPORT TOURING LEADER DO?
Your award will support you to run safe and enjoyable trips, based on your group’s needs and aspirations. You will lead journeys, on moderate inland water, for a range of mixed craft.
As a result of becoming a Leader, you can work independently or be deployed by a club, centre or organisation to lead trips and journeys. The purpose of these trips may be wide ranging from educational experiences, social adventures or trying something new.
You will be able to provide British Canoeing Awarding Body Awards and Training such as:
- Paddle Awards – Paddle Start, Paddle Discover and Paddle Explore.
- Personal Performance Awards – Touring Award, Open Water Touring Award and Multi Day Touring Award.
Note: other experience, training or qualifications may be required.
